Central Upstate New York has over 20 years of experience in the
research and development of clean and renewable resources. We have the
academic experience and resources needed for these cutting edge projects; we
also have the natural resources. In the Creative Core there are over 578, 000
acres of forest and farmland which produce enough biomass to support a 60
megawatt power plant. We are also home to the largest wind farm east of the
Mississippi River. The Maple Ridge Wind farm generates 320 Mega Watts of
wind energy, enough to power 98,000 homes. We are also home to numerous
hydro power plants. Potsdam's hydro power plant has two 43-kilowatt
generators capable of producing 7.5 million kilowatts of energy per year.
