rich with history, full of life and filled with glacially carved vistas of

replete with historic treasures. The Underground Railroad ran through
Cayuga County and Harriet Tubman made Auburn her home. William Seward,

lived down the street from Tubman. The former New York Governor,
Presidential candidate, Secretary of State and purchaser of Alaska’s home is
now a historic museum open to the public. Cayuga County boasts the only
intact Lois Comfort Tiffany-designed chapel in the entire world at Willard Chapel.
The technology to make talking movies was created here and is show cased at the
Cayuga Museum. Next door is the Schweinfurth Art Museum with
ever-changing exhibits in various medias.
Cayuga County
supports a vibrant arts community and is home to the Auburn Public Theater and
the Merry-Go-Round Theater. Local artists and musicians showcase their
work at intimate venues like Burritt’s Café in Weedsport. Wells College
and Cayuga Community College provide ongoing educational opportunities.
Outdoor recreation abounds from boating on the beautiful Finger Lakes to
exploring winding trails or country villages on foot or by bike. And
wineries are plentiful, creating unique Finger Lakes varietals.
Once home to a
mighty manufacturing economy, Cayuga County has transitioned to an
entrepreneurial hotbed of small and midsize high tech and eco-friendly clean
industries. The typical Cayuga County business employs four to five
people, so the environment is perfect for a small, start-up enterprise. Agriculture
continues to be a mainstay in the local economy, providing jobs while keeping
the flavor of the county rural and pristine.
So take a drive
around Owasco Lake or hike through Fillmore Glen State Park. Have a cup of
coffee at the River Bend Cafe, learn to dance at Auburn Public Theatre. Drive
along a country road and stop to let the turkeys cross, drop a line in Owasco
Outlet and hook the catch of the day. Dock your boat along Cayuga Lake
and have a picnic.
